WILD CELERY MATS ON DELAVAN LAKE

9/18/2024

Wild celery has begun propagating for the year and is forming large mats on the lake which is the plants natural cycle and is easily seen by the root system visible within these floating mats.  The root system appears as white nodes that can protrude above the water line.  We are speculating that the excessive growth this year may be due to heavy rainfall events this past spring that created larger runoff events than we've experienced the last few years.  We are currently on pace to have a record harvest this season with a greater volume of aquatic plants harvested since the inception of the harvesting program.  We are working diligently to address the ever changing conditions associated with Delavan Lake.
